Summary
The article is dedicated to the definition of torture, the reflection of the prohibition of torture as fundamental human rights in national and international legal documents. Beside to that, there is given the definition of the degrading treatment and criteria for actions and conditions constituting the torture. The international and national human rights protection mechanisms with regard to prevention of torture, and petitions addressed to and decisions made by ECHR on torture and cruel treatment is included to the content of the article.
